This is the last time Patchy ever gets to write a blog post about a new episode of Halt and Catch Fire. BUT… this probably won’t be the last time Patchy blogs about Halt and Catch Fire. Patchy’s thinking VERY SERIOUSLY about going back and blogging EVERY EPISODE sometime when new TV shows are slow, like summer.
That’s how much Patchy loves this show.
Normally Patchy recaps everything that happened and tries to tie things back to previous seasons in an attempt to figure out what’s going to happen next. But these are the LAST TWO EPISODES and there is no next. Halt and Catch Fire is gone, and Patchy HATES saying goodbye.
What this show gave us were forty episodes that tell a very powerful story. Now that it’s over, Patchy thinks it’s PERFECT. But Patchy can’t say EXACTLY why until the end of this blog because… that would be a SPOILER and, as Patchy’s loyal readers know, spoilers go AFTER THE JUMP… but this isn’t the jump yet.
What Patchy realized is that Cameron’s game Pilgrim is a metaphor for the whole show. See, people didn’t like Cameron’s game because they couldn’t figure it out. It would send the player back to the beginning to try again. Joe even called and asked Cam about it and she said to think of it as going back to the start with all the information you gained. Time after time after time, the characters on the show would repeat the same story over and over and over. It was a loop. They’d start companies only to watch the companies fail. They’d try to seize and opportunity only to be derailed by an unexpected surprise. Just when the end goal was in sight, they’d be blindsided by LIFE and forced to start over.
Halt and Catch Fire was about people. It was about each character’s struggles to find themselves.
The show was about figuring out life.
Patchy’s not good at life. Not at all.
Halt and Catch Fire helped Patchy understand himself better and it helped Patchette understand herself better and it helped us both understand each other better. Patchy don’t know what else to say, that’s POWERFUL stuff!!!! And now it’s over, and that’s okay. Even if this isn’t the ending that the creators saw from the very beginning, the whole series is PERFECT.
Now, Patchy was sad and upset when it first ended because Patchy didn’t like the end, but some very kind people on Twitter spent A LONG TIME explaining the end to Patchy and Patchy started feeling a lot better about it… and then… PATCHY HAD A REVELATION!!!! All at once, Patchy understood the ending. And it took a lot of reading and it took a lot of thinking and Patchy can’t wait to explain what he thinks about the ending!!!!! But first, let’s talk about the final episode EVER of one of televisions GREATEST TELEVISION SHOWS!!!!!
SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP (more…)
